Annabel Smyth’s
Web Site
Welcome to my web site. Photographs will be available shortly. Well, when I get round to it, you know....
I am a Methodist Local Preacher. The text of my sermons between January 1999 and August 2008 can be found here; however, time and technology changes, so I have now set up a blog in which to publish my sermons; this will enable you to receive updates via RSS feed should you wish.
I’m currently looking for another part-time administrative job, my previous one, for a satellite telephone sales and rental company, came to an end just before Christmas with the closure of the company’s London office. If you know of someone who needs help, please shout!
This
is my husband, Robert. We live in
Brixton, South London. Here is rather
a good site about Brixton, with lots of photos. If you click
here,
you will see a view of our block of flats (on the left), and here
is a view from the other direction. You can’t
actually see our windows, which are on the other wing of the block,
but still. But this
was the front door to our block until a couple of years ago –
it's now been replaced with a new, but very similar, one, much
lighter and easier to open.
Robert used to work in the Computing/IT department of Black and Veatch's Redhill offices, but in March 2006 he was outsourced, and now, although his place of employment, desk, and the work he does remains the same, he is technically employed by the outsourcing company EDS.
Robert and I are Christians, and attend King's Acre Church, which used to be a Local Ecumenical Project; however the Anglican church withdrew from this last year, totally against the wishes, and without the consent of the congregation, so it is now solely a Methodist Church.
Robert and I enjoy ice-skating as our main way of keeping fit. We skate at Streatham Ice Arena, a couple of miles down the road from here, coached by Glyn and Karen Martin. We enjoy participating in adult competitions such as the Mountain Cup.
Apart from skating, I enjoy creative activities, such as making soap and knitting/crochet. Oh, and some years ago, I made a collection of recipes, and these are available, if you are interested.
This
is our daughter, Emily Morrell. Emily was educated at Streatham
Hill and Clapham High School, a Girls’
Day School Trust school. She was, until 1998, an active member of
the Girls' Brigade,
in which she is a Warrant Officer, and has been awarded the Queen's
Award, the highest Girls' Brigade award.
After leaving school, she spent a gap year in Switzerland as an au pair, followed by travelling in the USA, and a dig in France. She then went to York University, from which she graduated in July 2002 with a 2.1 joint honours in History and Archaeology. She worked at Castell Henllys, in Wales during the 2002 season, having gone as a student archaeologist several times since 1996.
After graduation, she worked for a couple of years as Production Editor and Webmaster on Antiquity Magazine; however, in May 2006 Emily and her then fiancé Andrew left York and settled in London. Emily is now working as Publications Manager for the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, based at Senate House.
On
21 April 2007, Emily married Andrew Morrell, who works as a senior
advocate for LPC. They have been together since their first
term at York, and now live in Walthamstow,
north-east London. There are a few photos of their wedding here.
And, finally, in case you were wondering, our name is pronounced "Smith", as that is the correct spelling of the surname in Northern Ireland, where Robert comes from.
Thank you for visiting. Do read any of my sermons you are interested in. And have a look at those recipes.
Bye for now.
